It's a Boy!
Look who we brought home yesterday! The lil fuzzy rascal was rescued by Bichon FurKids and we were lucky to pass their application process and spotted Scamp out in an instinct. (Love at first sight?… Yes!) Anne's goal was to find a lil Bichon Mix since our very first dog in 1988 was a Bichon…
She passed away in 2003…so it feels right to have another lil Bichon. We did our research before to make sure Nico will have a perfect play pal. I really wanted her to become a big sis and we've learned that adopting a boy would help... And it seems like it worked. Nico's first reaction was to give him a BIG KISS!
Scamp seems a lil turned off there… I think he was shocked to meet such a large pup! But here they tried it again:
It's official... They are play pals for life! I want to thank Karen for rescuing him and teaching him all his lil tricks... Without a sound he listens with hand commands. SMART PUPPY right? I have also learned that Karen and her BFF Sarah have the cutest dog's accessory company. You can check it out here.

Big Sister Be Good
Nico my sunshine might be becoming a big sis! Of course there's excitement about bringing home a new pup but at the same time a lil worry-some on how she will react and if she will love him as she loved George. I recently came across some videos which made me melt in hoping there will be instant love between nico and a new brother like the Orangutan and the Hound or the one below (please watch till the end - its totally worth it):
OR the cuteness between Bizzy and Faye!

Mourning Doves
It's been awhile since my last post. To be honest it was hard to come back to this blog and I was juggling with the idea of not keeping it up... The thought of new posts slowly drowning out the past posts of Georgie made me sad. But as they say "time heals all wounds" I have a new perspective on this blog and thought it would be nice to keep it up for good Nico. As you all know she loves to take pictures and I love to share them.
This has been the state of our mind for couple weeks... We had a hard time adjusting to how the house seems a lil empty a lil quiet...
It took about a week for Nico to get back into routine. She sat by the back door waiting for George to come home. Truly reminds me of Haichiko. Nico, my family, and I truly thank everyone for their warm messages and support. Really THANK YOU! :-)
Couple of weeks ago while picking lemons off our tree... these two lil guys fell from the tree. It was a struggle to get them back into the nest. Lemon trees have really scary thorns. So we used this and placed it on top:
The mommy bird was thankful and here she is. She literally sat on top of them.
They learn to fly right away and this one got hurt (I believe a cat got him). We stuck him in this large bottle so he can heal. This sat ontop of their nest. It looked like it was going to storm that evening.
The next day we moved him out and put him in this basket.
Of course the mom approves. I think she loves her new home. I recently got bird seeds and placed a lil food bowl for them. They come back every couple hours. In total there are 4 of them. I did massive research to figure out that they were mourning doves and learned they have a tight family unit and loves to come back to their nest.

My BFF
Georgie had passed away 1-week ago and I am having a hard time grasping the idea that he is no longer with us. The past week has been filled with tears, barely able to breathe and having this gaping hole inside me. It’s strange to think that this is permanent and even now I feel like he is away at the vet resting up to come home. Last Tuesday was a traumatic experience for me and my family and realizing how we take little things in life for granted. The house is quiet now without him. He was a huge part of our everyday life from the moment we wake up until we put our heads down to sleep. I am going to miss our everyday walks, feeding time, protecting us from the postman / gardeners, the barking alert that the sprinklers are turned on, the nudging of please pet me and give me a kiss and at night seeing him already in bed waiting for lights out. It was comforting to know how my neighborhood had gotten to know him and as I walked lil Nico for the first time without him everyone stops to ask where’s Georgie?
He has been with us for full 13 years and helped our family move to three homes, celebrated graduations of high school / college, the passing of his lil sister Bok Shi Ra, our 20’s filled with ups/downs, many birthdays, holidays, and happy celebrations in the Pak family… His favorite thing was the surprised treats I had for him once a day, his morning walks where he loved to greet people and their pets, and snuggle time in front of the TV. He loved loved loved watching my mom bbq in the backyard and sitting under the dining table watching Anne bake her goodies. The lion blanket you see through out this site was once his enemy and slowly became his blankie he couldn’t sleep without. He secretly loved dressing up and taking photos. He was bilingual and even though he didn’t know any cool tricks he was a talking pup that always let us know exactly what he wanted. The house is definitely empty with out him here…
Dear Yong Boks (Georgie),
I wish I made it in time to see you before you left. I pray that you didn’t feel alone or abandon at the hospital. You looked very peaceful and asleep and I know you are with Bok Shi Ra running around in grass heaven with endless amount of treats and a place that will never rain. Nico waits for you by the door every night. I know you will still be with us protecting us in spirit. I am going to miss your big brown eyes and pretty lashes… And I can’t express enough how much you mean to us and how much love we have for you. Thank you for being there for me and my family. You will never be forgotten. You took a piece of me with you and I am eternally grateful that you were my BFF!
Love,
Mom

Besties!
I'm starting to see Nico + George bonding more and more! They have their very own beds and these beds are like their territory and they never once traded spots. They have this strange silent agreement on their ownerships of their beds/space.
Here is ariel shot where Nico is slightly on George's bed. I thought it was too cute that shes sort-of sleeping on his arm.
Couple hours later they re-arranged them selves and they're side by side. I tried to take a quiet picture but Nico caught me!
I think they became best friends. Usually George would have growled and Nico would have howled back. They are truly becoming besties!!!

Monday Blues :-(
The first week of January flew by of course... And sometimes I put too much expectation on the beginning of the "New Year"! In my mind I feel like I can almost have a new start but I didn't have much time to prepare this cathartic moment of feeling the fresh newness of the year. It started out with a fun nye party, bridal shower, wedding, fun festive welcoming Jeffrey back home, and house hunting adventure... with so much going on I am feeling a tad bit in a funk that I can't seem to shake off. SO yesterday I decided to start a DETOX. I think it will help me clear my mind and at the same time get me back into shape. So today I had: Scrammbled eggs, Brown Rice with Seaweed, Apple, Orange and for dinner I am planning to be a souper!
Fingers crossed that I get out of this funk and feel motivated about work and life in general. George and I would rather just hide under the covers but we shall see...

It's been awhile...
Nico + George wishes everyone happy new year. Their new year resolution is to stop and smell the roses more often this year (for them grass?). It rained so much in LA over the holiday break it was hard for me to take the dogs out and photograph them. But here they are enjoying the sun and eating their daily dose of grass.
I was so thankful that New Year was on a Saturday so I felt like I had an extended weekend. Of course that didn't keep the anxieties away. I don't know why I always get this overwhelming feeling every new year. Its now the 3rd and things are ok. I need to take note and learn to smell the roses. ;-) I had/have a personal to-do list that was neglected for the past 2 weeks :-( I am hoping that this week I ease back into work flow and nothing too dramatic happens so I can slowly cross things off. Fingers crossed!
This morning I received an email that totally CHEERED ME UP! I submitted photos of the pups and they actually got posted on DOGLR. DOGLR is one of the cutest dog blogs I have seen. I can't help but visit this site once a day. It always puts a smile to my face and now I am glad Nico + George is part of it.

The day before the rain came...
This picture was taken last week on our early am walk. They sure are getting really antsy with this non-stop rain. (I personally love the rain). Nico panics at the idea of even having one rain drop on her. She makes a huge fuss and that puts me in paranoia-mode... Hoping/Praying please talk to me when you need to go outside to use the bathroom. I will walk out with you and make sure the umbrella is covering you. But even after pleading with her she will still pee indoors. Even on her bed and will lie in it. I think she believes that its my fault its raining and it's her way of punishing me? George on the other hand doesn't mind the rain. Georgie the angel dog! :-)
Check out their lil backpacks. Now I am hand free of carrying plastic bags. They carry their own. I want to get these stylish one next time!

Hachi / Hachiko
My friend recommended the movie Hachi: The Dog's Tale because of my Nico (Akita). I sort of knew what the movie was about but I had no idea I would be crying myself to sleep. The movie was so moving and incredible I hope everyone gets to see it. If you are a dog lover you can see a little bit of Hachi in every dog. Hachi was known for his loyalty towards his owner, a professor he found in 1924. They would have daily routine of meeting at the train station before heading home together. They had a full year together until one day while Hachi was waiting for him... The professor never showed up (he passed away).
Hachi waited and waited for the next 9 years at the station. People who took that commute all got to know him and would often bring him treats. The dog became so famous and loved by the country that they even made a statue of him and have an annual ceremony celebrating his loyalty.
You can read more about it here and how his story was told and lived on... Below is the movie trailor:
After watching this I couldn't help but snuggle with Nico. And the funny thing about Nico is when I first got her she always reminded me of a statue or a soldier because she will just sit and wait and wait and wait...and shes very still. I feel so lucky to have found her and have a little Hachi in my life!
Here's another great video about Hachiko!
